Iqra Library hosts Life-Saving Organ Transplantation Lecture
In a conference held at the Tafseer Hall at Dar Ul-Salam mosque on the topic of "Life-Saving Organ Transplantation", on Sunday December 8th, 2019, the following items were presented.
Dr. Bahar Bastani, professor of Medicine-Nephrology and Transplantation discussed how organ transplantation (kidney, liver, heart, lung, pancreas, ...) has saved millions of lives globally in the past 5 decades. He also reported that the current shortage of available organs is resulting in many thousands dying every year, and has lead to an illegal global transplant tourism.
Dr Mujtaba A. Qazi, Ophthalmologist, Director of Clinical Studies at Pepose Vision Institute in St Louis presented the basics of corneal transplantation that has gifted sight again to so many blinds worldwide. He also presented the current challenges of corneal transplantation in Pakistan.
Mufti Asif Umar presented the diversity of opinions on the issue of organ transplantation from live donors, as well as deceased donors, and the opinion of more classical, as well as, more temporary Islamic scholars.
